Writing Consultation

Brittany works collaboratively with teens and adults through independent writing consultation during all stages of the writing process. Whether a client is working on flash fiction, an analytical essay, or a book-length manuscript, Brittany centers writers’ creative visions while providing actionable guidance for carrying a project forward. She welcomes clients who are exploring any or all of the following stages in the writing process:

  • Generative idea-building

In this stage, writers are just putting pen to paper, exploring the flicker of a new idea. Brittany uses prompt-based freewriting and creative exercises to support writers’ creation of new content to cull and hone later in the writing process.

  • Compiling and Organizing

Sometimes, writers have copious amounts of material but struggle to move it forward. In this stage of the writing process, whether it’s a first draft of an essay, scattered chapters of a future book, or a journal article from which to extract public-facing material, Brittany offers support thinking about structure, form, and content to create a map for completing a creative project.

  • Editing and Sharing

The drafts are done, and the piece is nearly ready to share. What’s next? Brittany works with writers to smooth manuscripts through line-edits and structural tweaks, provides input on pitches, query letters, or book proposals, or works with writers to consider next steps, from best-fit publication outlets, to agent queries, and more.

Brittany is especially passionate about helping professionals translate their expertise for public-facing audiences—extracting news media articles from a peer-reviewed publication, for example. If you have a writing project you’d like to work on, reach out here.
